Attention: Quagga and zebra mussels are a major threat to Utah waterways. Read how you can help keep them out of Utah.
Freeze/thaw cycles: Depending on elevation and weather conditions, lakes and reservoirs may be open or frozen on any given day. Smaller mountain waters generally freeze overnight and thaw by early afternoon. Larger bodies of water are more resistant to the daily freeze/thaw cycles. Unless you plan to fish a large body of water, schedule your fishing trip for the afternoon.

| Huntington North Reservoir 2010-04-23 Slow |
The reservoir is ice-free. Aquatics Program Manager Paul Birdsey says to try fishing along the rocky face of the dam—where you can catch largemouth bass with plastic baits. As the water temperature climbs, the weedy northend should have good fishing for bass with spinnerbaits. The reservoir has a few special regulations, please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook before you visit. |
| Huntington Reservoir 2010-04-23 Slow |
The reservoir remains ice-covered. There is very little melting along the shoreline. |
| Joes Valley Reservoir 2010-04-23 Fair |
The reservoir is now open. Randall Stilson recommends a Jake's lure. Bait anglers should try chub meat and dead minnows. The reservoir has a few special regulations, please read the Utah Fishing Guidebook before you visit. |
| La Sal Mountains 2010-04-23 Good |
Aquatics Technician Randall Stilson reports good fishing for trout. The best baits were nightcrawlers and multicolored marshmallows. One angler reported that his party of four anglers hooked 30 fish in 1.5 hours. A catfish angler reported that he caught a 22-pound catfish with a piece of hot dog last fall. Aquatic Invasive Species Coordinator Dan Keller reported fair success fishing for bass along the face of the dam with pumpkin-colored plastic grubs. |
